The pastor, John Freed spoke about the passage in Hebrews 5:11-24 about growing in your faith. His wife Danielle is expecting their first child and he was talking about the hopes and dreams he has for his son. Understanding that at first his son will only drink milk, sleep and poop. But one day the baby will grow out of diapers, needing to be fed by others, become a boy...and eventually grow into a man. John is excited about the day that his boy will stop drinking just milk and move onto solid foods, because eventually he wants to sit down and eat a giant steak with his boy. If his son is 11 years old and still only drinking milk, he will be malnourished and missing out on what life has for him.
He used this to parallel our spiritual walks with God. In the beginning of our walks we are like babies, understanding the basics about God in the simplest way. The only way we are really learning about God is through others, such as pastors, teachers, friends, parents, and their spoon feeding God's truth into our minds. But there is a point where we should be growing and seeking God on our own. And even beyond that, our faith should grow beyond our own personal walks and begin to see the WORLD through God's eyes. Becoming part of bringing God's kingdom to earth. It was An amazing way to kick off the year and encourage all of us to continue to mature in our faith and take that faith to the world.
It was a special time to be there and get to connect with the leaders and with students. I appreciate so much your prayers and partnership!
