There is a letter of the Bible written by Luke that is my favorites, packed with amazing stories about the Twelve Apostles empowered by the Holy Spirit and the works they did; stories of miracles, healing, persecution, and conversion! This letter was written by Luke to describe these amazing acts that mere humans were doing empowered by God. Luke also wrote the Gospel (Good News), Luke, explaining that Jesus is the Lord of all and that God's grace is extended to us through Jesus. Luke wishes to make clear how Jesus is Lord of all, so the gospel can go to all. Luke's Gospel, as his preface makes clear, is a reassurance that through Jesus one can know God and experience life as God designed it.Both letters Acts and Luke begin with dedications to Theophilus, in the Gospel letter Lukes begins; "Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write a careful account for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught." (Luke 1:1-4) and the letter continues to explain the journey that is salvation. To be saved involves coming to Jesus in faith, but the act of faith is only a first step in a journey that many others do not understand. (I suggest reading the whole letter, it will change your LIFE!)
It is not known for sure who this Theophilus man was but his name in the original Greek means; friend of God, beloved by God, or lover of God. At this time in Greek culture a name was more than a label for something, it embodied the very character of that which it names. Like the ancient Greeks, Nate and Laura believe strongly that names are very important. Nate and Laura really love the significance and history of this name, Theophilus.
I now introduce the newest addition to my family, a healthy baby boy named...
